As Asheron's Call is about to shut down after 17 years, this 74-year old youngster has been playing it for all those years.

Sad to see the lights going out on this one. This was the first MMO I ever played and I was in it for around 4 years or so with a guild.  As it was always a very small "niche" community-compared to Ever Quest-I guess it is surprising it lasted this long but still sad.

Never played the original, but enjoyed AC2 for a period of time before it shut down for the first time (later to reopen).  Not sure if it's still around though

Nope. AC2 went down the same day as AC1.  :(

I didn't hear of AC until after its heyday and was sad I missed out on that as it seemed very community oriented from the guild pages I had visited, even though the graphics were pretty bad.  By the time I tried it, people had bots set up in the towns and the few real people I saw were running up to me asking me to swear fealty to them or something.

I give them credit for continuing the game as long as they have, but can't help but think the few folks that were playing were ones that had been there from the beginning.  And nothing else will capture that feeling and comfortableness for them.

I never could get into AC since it came out in the middle of my hardcore UO days. I tried it as well as EQ, but ended up back in UO until DAoC came out.
